Warkworth WI, January meeting

For the January meeting of Warkworth WI, president Marion Jones welcomed 35 members and one visitor.

Her notices included a number of items.

An up-to-date photograph of all members is planned for the May meeting to replace the one taken a few years ago, which is on the village website, and it is hoped that photographs of the various groups would also be displayed.

Important items from Warkworth WI’s past have been stored in the archive at Woodhorn Museum, and other less important, but nevertheless interesting items, including books, are stored in the WI cupboard.

Pat Bagshaw’s husband has given us some of Pat’s WI memorabilia, including old programme cards and WI publications, and these have been put in the cupboard too.

It is planned that a display of these items will be made for the Warkworth Show in August.

The ACWW envelope was circulated. The annual outing would be a meal in June, not July, to the Old Boat House.

Our secretary, Judy Townsend, had a successful evening. Not only did she win the birthday flowers, but also the competition for a knitted item.

The remainder of the evening was handed over to members.

In the previous meeting, Marion had invited anyone who had a home-made bag to bring it along. The aim is for members to make a bag (sewn, knitted, etc) to be entered in this year’s Warkworth Show, for the Warkworth WI class of making ‘a re-usable shopping bag, any medium’.

The number and variety of bags brought along was impressive, showing once again how many talented members we have.

Different members showed their bags and described how they were made, and afterwards the display of bags was much admired over a cup of tea.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 1, on the topic of ‘shabby chic’ furniture renovation by Everlong.

The competition will be for a handmade gift.
