The Christmas party night now seems a distant memory but a good time was had by the 45 members attending, despite the sad news about the passing of Pat Bagshaw, a long serving member of the Warkworth WI.
The December meeting started with a moving tribute to her paid by president Serena. The buffet provided by Topsy Turvey’s and the committee was excellent and the home grown entertainment was enjoyed by everyone.
There was a good turnout for a dark January meeting by 36 members and one guest.
President Serena read out a moving letter from Pat Bagshaw’s husband in response to the help given at Pat’s funeral tea.
The photos taken at the Christmas meeting were available to look at. The carol service at Hexham had been good and Widdrington WI had been thanked for organising the coach.
Members were reminded to choose a Resolution from the list published in WI Life magazine, spare forms had been copied for individuals but it was also possible just to tick one and a collated response would be sent in.
A reminder was given about the bowls competition. An announcement was made about the proposed July outing to the Borders and coaches were being costed. Non members would be invited to fill up the coach if there were spare seats.
It was announced that the celebration cake would be at the June meeting and that a record of the year was to be made with photos.
Members were invited to bring along a favourite recipe (with or without a sample) for the next meeting on February 3.
Our speaker for the evening was Bill Devonshire who brightened up a gloomy January with his many photos of gardens throughout Britain following the seasons, starting and ending up with pictures of his own garden.
