An Alnwick shop has teamed up with a regional company to provide tourists with a handy luggage-storage facility.
Scotts of Alnwick, on Bondgate Within, has become a host for LeftIt.
LeftIt was created by Gateshead-based Adil Ahmed and his wife Adila, in August last year out of a need to supply the demand for locations where travellers can leave their bags.
Mr Ahmed said: “I work as a police officer within Newcastle city centre and on an almost daily basis I get asked about left-luggage facilities, which is where the idea for the business came from.
“We sign up and advertise businesses with unused storage space on our website.
“The customers, usually tourists and visitors, can then book space through our website at their chosen location. LeftIt enables people to go bag-free and leave their bag in a safe and secure location.
“Realising that Alnwick didn’t have a left-luggage storage facility, we attended the town and signed up Scotts of Alnwick as our first and the only luggage-storage host in the area.
“We began by setting up the business in Newcastle and expanded to Sunderland and Durham. We have recently signed up shops in London and have plans to extend into other larger cities and Scotland.”
