Peter Arnold, chairman of the Northumbrian Language Society, emerged victorious from a hotly-contested dialect-speaking competition held in Exeter at National Dialect Day.
His performance of his tall tale Waad Yuh Beleev It? so
impressed the judges that they declared him the winner of the competition for dialect speakers performing a piece they had written themselves.
He said: “I must admit I was quite nervous before it was my turn to compete, but it all came together when it mattered, so I’m really pleased and delighted with the result.”
