Wooler First School and Glendale Middle School, which are on the same site, are the only ones in the North East to be in the running for the competition to win a school playground, run by Tesco together with the Febreze and TerraCycle Partnership.

Schools in the running had to sign up for the Air & Home Care Recycling Programme, which means they are helping students and their parents to recycle their air and home care waste – such as plastic trigger heads and air fresheners – locally.

Ellen Ryan, a parent of three children at the first school, said: “The school has achieved so much in the past couple of years with the first school moving site and the play area would be an incredible gift to the children and school.”

Wooler has been at the top of the leaderboard, but it needs your votes to stay there.
