In what was an extraordinary World Cup for Alnwick’s Lucy Bronze, she is now in the running to win goal of the tournament, decided by a public vote.

The 23-year-old scored two crucial goals in the knock-out stage, with a screamer against Norway in the last-16, before a header against hosts Canada in the quarter-final.

And it is for the former, her superb strike from outside the area, that Bronze has made the 12-woman shortlist on the Fifa Women’s World Cup website.
