Volunteers wanted to help with beach clean

Last year, two teams collected 135 bags (455.75kg) of rubbish and 20 lobster pots in two hours from the beach along Druridge Bay and the pond and dunes at the wildlife charity’s East Chevington reserve.

If you have two hours spare on Friday, March 3, and fancy helping with a spring beach clean at Cresswell Foreshore and Cresswell Pond, then head to the Cresswell car park (opposite the Drift Café) for 9.45am.

Aurelie Bohan, NWT’s Living Seas officer, will be present for the clean, which takes place between 10am and noon.

Aurelie said: “Years ago, litter was not the problem that it is today, especially along our coastline. Food packaging, plastic bottles and takeaway meal trays have all contributed to a growing menace that affects our wildlife, streets, countryside and coastline, so come on everybody, join me for a bit of dune dusting.”

Litter-pickers, gloves and bags will be provided, however resources may be permitted, so if attendees have any appropriate equipment which they could bring along that would be much appreciated.

NWT and its supporters are committed to keeping Druridge Bay looking its best, regularly collecting hundreds of kilograms of rubbish along the coast.

Litter that is dropped at the beach can trap or hurt wild animals, as well as injuring dogs when they are running along the dunes.
