An Alnwick group is looking for more volunteers to help maintain the town’s cemetery.
Alnwick Town Council is looking for more people to join the Friends of Alnwick Cemetery.
Set up in February this year, the group helps maintain the cemetery and has planted hedges and the first trees on the cemetery avenue for more than 30 years.
It also helps to keep the cemetery clean and tidy.
Coun David Farrar, chairman of Alnwick Town Council’s cemetery committee, said: “Joining the Friends of the Cemetery also helps make your voice heard on the way this precious community resource is managed and developed.”
The group meet monthly, normally on the third Saturday of the month for a couple of hours in the morning.
Anyone interested in finding out more should contact town-council clerk Bill Batey on 01665 714922 or email bill.batey@btco nnect.com
Alternatively, turn up this Saturday at the cemetery at 9.30am.
Unlike the cemeteries in Berwick and Morpeth, which are owned, maintained and managed by Northumberland County Council, Alnwick Town Council has sole responsibility for the site on South Road.
