A charity that cares for dogs, which would otherwise be put to sleep, is appealing for volunteers.

SHAK, which stands for Safe Homes And Kindness, is looking for helpers as it prepares for a busy Christmas period in its sanctuary near Alnwick.

It is particulary keen on finding someone to assist with the day-to-day running of the kennels. Organising the other volunteers, arranging the rotas and helping with the paperwork are a few jobs with which they currently need a hand.

Founder of SHAK, Stephen Wylie, said: “The role might suit a retired person who misses the buzz of managing people and has a bit of time to offer. I see it as an operations manager-type role and I need someone I can rely on for a few hours, four or five days a week on a voluntary basis.”
