A garden party is to be held at Alnwick Garden later this month to celebrate the work of volunteers and carers.

Hosted by the Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland, The Duchess of Northumberland, in the first of what is expected to be an annual occasion, will take place on Thursday, June 26, 4pm.

The garden party will recognise the valuable contribution that volunteers and carers make to the community in all parts of the county.

Her Grace, the Duchess of Northumberland said: “Ever since The Queen came to Alnwick and saw the huge numbers of volunteers and carers in Northumberland, I have been keen to continue to recognise and celebrate the enormous contribution that so many people make to our communities. Often unsung, these heroes deserve to be saluted for the really valuable work they do and so we have arranged such a celebration.”

250 volunteers and carers, with their partners or a guest, have been invited to The Alnwick Garden for an afternoon garden party. Greggs will supply the food and Ramside the catering equipment and staff, and the Cassino Band of Northumbria Army Cadet Force will provide music during the afternoon.

At the end of the afternoon, the Duchess will present, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) to the Morpeth Cadet Brigade, for their outstanding contribution to voluntary work in Morpeth and the surrounding area. The Duchess will explain what the QAVS is, what it stands for, and how it is awarded. In essence, The award recognises groups whose work has significantly benefited others and sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering by such groups.

The garden party could not take place without the significant support of Potts UK, who have printed the invitations and information sheets and created the memento pins, Greggs plc who have provided all the food for the afternoon, and Ramside, who have provided all the catering equipment and staff to serve the tea.
