Volunteer-run coffee shop is serving up funds for church

Mandell’s Coffee Pot operates out of the Parish Room in Embleton and collects cash in aid of the village’s Holy Trinity Church.

It has become an important part of community life and has recently launched its own Facebook page.

The project was started in 2012 by Jan Applegarth as an experiment for the summer months to make some money for the church.

Jan was joined by Jean Lawrence and together they have established a volunteer team.

The Parish Room – a detached bungalow in front of the church – has become a well-used community venue, which is supported by locals and visitors alike.

It is now used by local branches of WI, Mothers Union and Women’s Club and a Trinity Tots Group in the afternoons.

Thanks to local funders and The Lottery, the Parish Room’s kitchen and toilet have been refurbished.

Mandell’s is open through the winter on a Monday and Wednesday morning. From Easter to the end of October, it is open Monday to Thursday mornings.
