Walks last between 30 and 90 minutes, are graded on their level of difficulty and are open to everyone, regardless of ability.

Budding leaders will receive all of the necessary training for free.

People just wanting to join the group for the walks – which are fully insured – are also more than welcome to come along.

In Northumberland, residents are being encouraged to take part in the free weekly health walks that are being laid on across the county by Active Northumberland.

The group walks vary in length, from short, intermediate and long, and are open to everyone.

To view a timetable of walks in your area, log on to www.activenorthumberland.org.uk/Activities.aspx and search health walks under the A-Z activity section.

Many libraries, GP surgeries and council contact centres hold a supply of printed programmes.
