Out and about with the Rothbury Walking for Health group.

The Rothbury Walking for Health group is trying to attract more volunteers to lead its hikes.

The free treks take place on a Friday at 10.30am, starting outside the Coquetdale Centre, on the village’s Church Street.

Walks last between 30 and 90 minutes, are graded on their level of difficulty and are open to everyone, regardless of ability.

Budding leaders will receive all of the necessary training for free.

People just wanting to join the group for the walks – which are fully insured – are also more than welcome to come along.

Turn up on a Friday just before 10.30am, or if you have any inquiries contact Jane Hardy on jhardy01@activenorthumberland.org.uk or call 01670 629327.

○ Residents are being urged to put their best foot forward during National Walking Month and reap the benefits of a healthier lifestyle.

National Walking Month will run throughout May and is a campaign run by Living Streets, aimed at getting more people walking, no matter what their level of fitness.

In Northumberland, residents are being encouraged to take part in the free weekly health walks that are being laid on across the county by Active Northumberland.

The group walks vary in length, from short, intermediate and long, and are open to everyone.

To view a timetable of walks in your area, log on to www.activenorthumberland.org.uk/Activities.aspx and search health walks under the A-Z activity section.

Many libraries, GP surgeries and council contact centres hold a supply of printed programmes.
