A shocked villager has described the dramatic moment he came face-to-face with two armed robbers who were escaping the store they had just raided.
And another member of the community recounted how he chased the culprits after the terrifying incident at Hadston’s Co-operative shop on Saturday night.
Two masked men carrying a hand gun and a knife threatened staff and stole a large amount of cash from the premises, on The Precinct, just before 10pm, police said.
The robbers fled the store on foot and ran towards a nearby estate.
Two men, aged 23 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and are currently on police bail.
Gary Nichol, 47, of Hartside Crescent, encountered the pair as they were fleeing.
“I had just come from the pizza shop and as I got to the Co-op entrance the first person came running out in front of me,” he said.
“He looked at me and then he ran. Then the second one come out and he tripped over the front wheel of my bike and fell to the ground.
“He got up and ran away, around the corner. Both had masks and were dressed in black.”
Another villager, who did not want to be named, said: “Me and my mates saw them running so we chased them. But they were that quick they got away.”
