Vera actress confirms her love of Northumberland on The One Show

Brenda Blethyn, star of the hit detective series Vera, has again spoken of her affection for Northumberland on national television.

The popular actress was a guest on BBC1's The One Show last night and told the presenters Matt Baker and Fearne Cotton the county where the programme is based was 'totally beautiful' and the warmth of the people was 'wonderful'.

And she revealed that a seventh series will start filming in June.

Fearne spoke of the 'cinematic, beautiful scenery of Northumberland' and said the tourist board love Vera as interest in the county goes up 44 per cent when it is on TV.

Brenda, who spends five months of the year in Northumberland, added: "The tourists and the local people love it. Sometimes they bring out the chairs and the wine and say 'come on Vera, join us', and I can't as I have to drive that Land Rover. The generosity and the welcome we get there is quite wonderful.

"For the first three years, I stayed in a hotel but all I wanted to do was boil an egg so, for the last three years, I have been in an apartment and that has worked better.

"I'll be back up at the end of May for the filming of series seven."

Vera is now broadcast all over the world in 130 different countries.

"This week, I had letters from Australia, Canada, America, Belgium and Sweden all in one day," she said.

Brenda appeared on This Morning on ITV last year and talked fondly of the time she has spent in the county during production.
