Police are appealing for information after windows and cars were damaged in a north Northumberland town.

The incident happened overnight Saturday into Sunday. Two shop windows were smashed in Alnwick town centre and five cars were scratched in the Dunterns area of the town. Officers are carrying out inquiries into the damages and are asking anyone who has information to contact them.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “This sort of damage causes a great amount of expense to those who are affected, the shop owners will have to replace the windows and car owners will have to have paintwork redone. We simply won’t tolerate this sort of mindless behaviour. Regular patrols will be carried out through the area and action will be taken against those who are suspected of being responsible for mindless vandalism.”

Two 16-year-olds have been arrested in connection with the damage and have been released on police bail.

Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191, quoting reference 314 120415, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
