All 800 portions of 99p Norwegian cod and chips on offer from a Seahouses shop have been sold.

Pinnacles Fish and Chips was offering the discounted meals yesterday, as part of a campaign to celebrate Norway Day.

To cope with the expected demand, the number of 99p portions was increased from 400 to 800.

And the meal-deal proved so popular, all 800 – available on a first-come, first-served basis – were sold by 4pm.

The shop’s doors had opened at 11am and Kevin Cox, from Consett, was the first person to take advantage of the offer.

The north Northumberland eatery was the only outlet in the county and one of just two in the North East to be selected as one of the 99 shops to be involved in the offer.

The Norwegian Seafood Council and a number of Norwegian Frozen At Sea fishing vessels came together to launch a UK-first partnership and gave 16 tonnes of sustainably-caught Norwegian cod to 99 British fish-fryers to commemorate the 200-year anniversary of the country’s constitution – known as Norway Day – and share the sustainable cod which is available in abundance in Norway’s Barents Sea.
