Alnmouth’s good recent form came to an end as they reverted to a trait of struggling at home to lower placed sides with a disappointingly flat showing against a well-organised Wideopen.

Prolific Ross Dickinson’s fourth minute close range strike following a cross and deflection set up a lead for the visitors which the home side’s bulk of possession never convinced enough to threaten where it mattered.

United’s back line of Ashurst, Frost, Wright and Dawson generally looked comfortable for the duration, but unfortunately, so did Wideopen’s.

As the attacks became more frantic in the second period, Judd Donohoe came closest to a leveller on 75 minutes but ‘keeper Ross Fellows pulled off a stunning reflex block with his feet.

Danny Donohoe was next to show but his 18 yard volley unfortunately just cleared the bar.

The only other half chance of note came the way of Brett Rogerson, but in truth Alnmouth’s frustrating performance deserved little more than the end result.

Alnmouth Utd: M Ashurst, D Dawson, J Frost, R Wright, D Donohoe, M Brown, L Jefferson, B Rogerson, (K Bell), J Quinn, (M Robson), R Taylor (A Martin), J Donohoe.
