Two rescued from causeway

A LIFEBOAT was launched to rescue a car trapped on the Holy Island causeway this morning (Thursday).

Around 10.30am, the Seahouses Inshore Lifeboat was called to help two people trapped on the causeway after trying to cross outside of the safe crossing times.

Upon arrival by land, the lifeboat was uncoupled, and the Landrover was able to drive to and recover the two casualties from the refuge box and bring them safely ashore, where they were handed into the safe care of local Coastguard Rescue personnel.

The RNLI had no details of the identity of the casualties, but their new BMW M series car had stalled in the salt water, and could have serious damage due to salt water entering the engine.
