An investigation was launched and the children were found by police later that day in the care of the same woman and another man. Police said that they were found around Amble’s harbour area.

At no stage were the children believed to be in any immediate danger and they were safely returned to the care of their foster parents.

A 33-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested and have been charged in connection with two counts of kidnap.

They were due to appear before magistrates at Mid and South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court, in Bedlington, this morning.
