On Tuesday morning, police received a report that a girl, five, and a two-year-old boy, had been taken from their foster parents by a woman.

The children were picked up by the female outside a school in the west of the city at around 9.30am.

An investigation was launched and the children were found by police later that day in the care of the same woman and another man. Police said that they were found around Amble’s harbour area.

At no stage were the children believed to be in any immediate danger and they were safely returned to the care of their foster parents.
