Two killed and one seriously injured in crash on Northumberland road

Two people have been killed and a third seriously injured in a road accident in Northumberland.

The accident happened just after noon yesterday (Wednesday) when a blue Nissan Micra and silver Vauxhall Astra collided on the A192 Shields Road near Hartford Bridge, south-west of Bedlington. A third vehicle was also damaged.

A man from the Micra and a woman from the Astra were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another woman from the Astra was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where she was being treated for serious injuries.

The A192, between Hartford Village and A1068 Plessey Checks roundabout, was closed for more than two hours to allow collision investigation and vehicle recovery.
