Two-day event will serve up a Taste of North

The Taste of the North event runs on Saturday and Sunday and will feature an array of stalls, street food, live music and the Barnacre alpacas.

The weekend coincides with the visit of the annual Help for Heroes motorcycle cavalcade, so on Saturday lunchtime the town will reverberate to the throb of scores of Harley-Davidsons.

The festival will take place around the town, including in the Market Place and the Town Hall.

Dawn Watts, Alnwick Markets manager, said: “Taste of the North is a celebration of all that is good about living in our region; a potpourri of flavours and culinary traditions – local food producers including jam and preserves, confectionary, pastries and pies, artisan bread, liqueurs, and craft work – baskets, knitted goods, woodwork, framed prints and cards and a pop-up gallery.

“There will also be live musical entertainment free in the Town Hall and relayed to the Market Place. Street-food vendors will be serving hot meals and snacks throughout the day. There will be plenty for the kids to do as well with face-painting and a smoothie bike.

“And keep your eyes open for the Star Wars Storm Trooper, and for Alf, the Alnwick Food Festival mascot; both of whom will be out and about to pose with shoppers.”

The event is being supported by Alnwick Chamber of Trade (ACT) and the town council. ACT chairman Carlo Biagioni said: “Taste of the North is a great opportunity to show off the assets of the whole town.”

The event will run from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Admission is free.
