TWO people have been arrested in connection with this morning’s crash in Alnwick.

A 27-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man found near the scene on St James’s Estate were arrested soon after the collision.

Police said the car was followed along the A1 from Berwick prior to the crash after reports of a possible drink driver.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 5.38am this morning police received a report of a possible drink driver near to the A1 in Berwick.

“Officers located the vehicle on the A1 and monitored it at a safe distance as it travelled south.

“The vehicle was then involved in a minor collision with a lorry near to the Alnwick area. The lorry driver wasn’t hurt.

“The car then collided with a police van just near to an industrial estate in Alnwick before crashing in to the garden of an address in St James’ Estate.”
