Trio bring a taste of pennines to village

Bringing of the Pennines to Whittingham, the Tom McConville Trio will kick off Highlight's Rural Tousing scheme's 2016 season.

Tom McConville is hailed as one of the leading fiddle players of our time with a rich toned voice, a dry wit and warm banter.

Accompanied by Jane and Phil Waites ,a night of traditional and contemporary music, from the highly danceable to the achingly beautiful, mixed with clog dancing, entertainment, merriment and laughter, will be on show at Whittingham Memorial Hall on Friday, January 29.

Audiences will be treated to a roller coaster repertoire with dustbowl ballads, bluegrass and old time tunes played alongside high energy Celtic jigs and reels, airs and waltzes. With the Pennines as the hub, the show musically links Scotland and the Borders in the north, Ireland and eastern USA in the west.

BBC Radio 2 Musician of the Year 2009, Tom McConville, was born and brought up on Tyneside and has earned an international reputation for his eye-watering skill on the fiddle and his unique interpretations of traditional songs.

He has played at venues and festivals and on literally hundreds of albums – Barbara Dixon, Richard Thompson, Allan Taylor and Lindisfarne among them.
