Five week closure of key Northumberland road to be rescheduled

A stretch of the route between Amble and Togston, near Hauxley Moorhouse Farm, was due for repair works from Monday, February 24.
This length of road is subject to mining subsidence and a concrete slab needs to be installed under the road to prevent this continuing.

Hide AdPrevious repairs have been carried out by Northumberland County Council but these have failed due to the on-going subsidence and so a more permanent solution is necessary.
Because of the depth of excavation required for this it will be necessary to close the A1068 for a number of weeks to carry out these works.
Works had been planned to start on February 24 with the A1068 closed for five weeks between the Amble Inn roundabout to the High Hauxley turn off, with a diversion in place.
However timescales for preparation had become compressed and this had meant that information had only recently been made public about the proposed closure.

The repair works will be carried out later in the year and further information will be provided once potential future works dates have been considered.
