Berwick train station reopens to passengers as search goes on for thieves who blew up cash machine

Train passengers can catch services to and from Berwick once again after the station was closed in the wake of an explosive attack on its cash machine.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the Railway Street station at 3.48am yesterday, Wednesday, March 4, following reports of theft from a cash machine.

Today, LNER confirmed the station has reopened to visitors today.

Meanwhile, the search goes on for the gang who launched the theft attack using an “explosive substance” and got away with cash.

Its officers and Northumbria Police attended and inquiries are ongoing.

Today, the station’s windows have been boarded up, with the ATM area boxed off.

The door of the nearby Costa, around 20 yards from the machine, was also damaged.
