TRANSPORT: Better links would help

I write regarding the letter concerning parking at Alnmouth, (Northumberland Gazette, July 12).

I empathise with Mr Tuckwell because we are one of those ‘inconsiderate’ users of the Alnmouth Station car park.

Our reason is clear – whenever we wish to travel in the UK, we utilise public transport as far as possible to avoid using a car.

We have absolutely no qualms about paying to park if a guaranteed space (and length of stay) is provided.

Better still, if a decent bus connection was available from where we live (Rothbury), we would not need to drive and park – if travelling before 9am or after 6pm, or on a Sunday, we have no means of getting home.

If the council could review public transport so that trains do connect with awaiting bus services, this would be ideal.

It is unfortunate that Steven Hurst’s Spirit bus service folded because this was designed to do exactly this.
