A unique centre that trains young people in the skills of deep-sea and trawler fishing is offering training places for applicants from throughout the country.

The scheme is being run by Whitby and District Fishing Industry Training School, which is currently the only training centre in the whole of the UK to deliver to complete the Level 2 Diploma in Maritime Studies – Sea Fishing.

Applications are now being accepted, with interviews planned for December, with an enrolment date in the new year.

Applicants are welcome from the whole of England, whether based on the coast or inland.

Successful applicants will travel to Whitby and lodge there for several weeks, during which time they will complete classroom-based training in all aspects of the sea fishing industry.

Attendees will be accommodated in homely lodgings within the town, provided by the school, and once this is completed, the trainees will either return to their coastal area to complete work-based learning on board local east coast fishing boats, or remain in Whitby to complete their training.
