Update on serious collision which closed A1 in Northumberland for seven hours

One person was taken to hospital after a collision closed the A1 in both directions in Northumberland for seven hours.

The road remained closed at its section near Causey Park, near Morpeth, until 8pm yesterday, Friday, November 15, following on from the collision at around 1pm.

Today, Saturday, November 16, Northumbria Police said the two-vehicle collision caused minor injuries.

North East Traffic Live, which can be followed on Twitter via @NELiveTraffic, said at the time of the incident, police and ambulance service were on the scene after the route was blocked.

A temporary diversion was set up via the A697 to help the emergency services.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called at 13.03 to a report of an accident on the southbound A1 at Morpeth.

“We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and have transported one patient to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.”
