Tillsides toppled as Ashington take over lead in Premier League

Tillside 1sts lost their position at the head of the Northumberland Premier League when they went down to a disappointing seven wicket defeat to Ashington Rugby in their top of the table clash at Etal on Saturday.

Tillside batted first, but they were all out for only 74 in 36 overs with Ross Hindmarsh their top scorer on 31.

Corey Milburn and James Richards took three wickets apiece, which put the visitors in the driving seat.

Ashington then rattled off the runs required in 28 overs, with the loss of only three wickets, with Chris Harwood top scoring on 20.

Also in the Premier League, Warkworth 1sts went down by 15 runs when they took on Blyth at home.

Blyth batted first and with Andy Clark on 47, Maurice Lawrence on 38 and Kevin Hudspith on 31 not out, they managed to put on 192 all out.

William Pringle was the pick of the home bowlers with 5-31.

In reply, Adam Hall hit 75 for Warkworth with Scott Gibson on 34. But with seven bats failing to reach double figures they fell short at 177 with three Blyth bowlers taking three wickets apiece.

Ulgham lost by eight wickets on their trip to Kirkley 1sts.

Ulgham opened up with 149, Roy Haygarth top scoring with 31, Mick Nicholson and Ragbir both taking three wickets for the home side.

In reply, Kirkley raced to 151-2 in 24 overs with Will Asher on 71 not out.

In Division 1, Warenford lost by 90 runs when they took on Whitley Bay 1sts at home.

The visitors batted first and put on 164 all out with opener John Douglas their top scorer on 36. Kevin Greshon emerged as Warenford’s most successful bowler with figures of 3-34 off his nine overs.

In reply, Waren struggled to 74 all out with Alan Sinton (15) and Daniel Patterson 912) the only bats in double figures.

Ivan Pearson took 4-9 for Whitley with the ball

Tillside 2nds maintained their lead at the head of Division 2 with a 78 run victory away to Whitley Bay 2nds.

Opener Keith Bickerton hit 69 as the Etal side posted 186-5, the best support coming from Dave Reay on 26 and Daniel Caddick on 24. Amit Patel was the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 4-33.

Chirag patel hit 46 in reply for the Tynesiders, but with eight bats failing to reach double figures they fell well short at 110 all out. Craig Robertson had the best return of the Etal bowlers with 3-36.

Embleton lost by nine wickets at home to Backworth 2nds. Embleton batted first and were all out for 114, with Scott Lawson on 32 and Hedley Grey on 26.

Adam Black took 4-28 for Backworth, who in their innings responded with 118-1 in 33 overs with Dave Hull Denholm on 54 not out and Graeme Fairbairn on 46 not out.

Wooler won by a narrow ten runs when they faced Alnmouth and Lesbury at home in Division 3.

The Glendale side batted first and put on 168-3 in their 40 overs with opener Thomas Comber hitting 55, Ian Clarke 43 not out and Andrew Aitchison 30.

Alnmouth replied with 158-8 in their innings with Richard Elliott top scoring on 37 not out. Aitchison was the pick of the home bowlers with figures of 4-28.

Rock also had a ten run win when they beat Kirkley.

Oliver Page hit 50 and Ben Dougal 43 as Rock opened up with 157 in less than 33 overs.

Amritveer Punia had a good spell with the ball and took 5-10. Jonathan Ball then hit 68 for Kirkley in reply, but the visitors were all out for 147 with Kieran North claiming 5-44.

Warkworth 2nds recorded a 90-run away victory over Hebburn 2nds.

Steven Anderson hit 100 not out as Warkworth set a target of 223-3 with John Briggs on 39, Ben Briggs on 33 and Graham Huitson on 31. In reply, Hebburn were all out for 133.
