At Monday night’s meeting of Wooler Parish Council, it was reported that the county council has bought two metres of land from the edge of the Ferguson’s Yard site, meaning that work to replace the railings and repair the pavement, as on the other side of the road, can now take place.

Chairman, Coun Robert Donkin, suggested that it may be a good opportunity to provide signs, both at the bottom of the Peth and Ryecroft Way, to flag up the town centre.

Ferguson’s Yard, which sits in a prominent location in the village, has been a concern for many for some years.

The derelict site has also attracted the attention of the young people of Wooler, many of whom highlighted it as part of a project with Newcastle University students as part of the neighbourhood plan.

It sparked a school project which saw pupils come up with a range of proposed uses.
