A novel set on the streets of Northumberland and Newcastle has made it through to the final stages of a worldwide competition which aims to find the next big blockbuster.
Peter Taylor drew on his experience of working as a news reporter for regional newspapers in the north of England to pen his fiction book The Knock.
He entered it into the World’s Best Story competition, which was launched in May this year, and was delighted to learn that judges and readers had decided to place it among the top 100 finalists.
Round two of the competition – staged in the US, Britain, the Republic of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Canada – will narrow the field down to ten contestants this month and the winner will be unveiled at Canada’s Toronto International Book Fair in November.
The first prize includes an author contract worth $25,000 and a fully sponsored book tour.
