Threlfall ton sets Alnwick up for win

Alnwick won the toss and asked the home side to bat.

On a ground where high scores are the norm, Alnwick bowled well to restrict Lintz to 208-6.

Pick of the bowlers was Will Smith with 3-37, while for the home side openers Kieron Gohery (55) and Johnny Forster (78) put on an opening stand of 140.

Alnwick’s bowling figures were Bateman 1-44, Threlfall 1-39, Scott 1-30, Wright 0-23, Straker 0-14, Smith 3-37.

In reply, Alnwick lost Andrew Scott early, but Michael Brewis with 51, including nine fours and a six, and Threlfall 125 not out (eight fours, 11 sixes) put on a second wicket stand of 143.

When Brewis eventually went, Andrew Stewart with 29 not out saw Alnwick home with seven overs to spare.

Threlfall hit eight fours and a massive 11 sixes in his unbeaten knock.

The win keeps Alnwick in third place on 103 points with five wins from six games, the other match being a draw.

But one place above Alnwick in the table is Alnmouth & Lesbury on 107 points, 13 behind early pace-setters Ryton.

On Saturday Alnmouth secured a comprehensive 104-run victory over visitors Greenside.

On winning the toss, home skipper Paul Straker elected to take his knock, and his opening partnership with Russell Hughes set the tone for the game.

The pair put on 164 before Straker was caught by Aaron Clydesdale off the bowling of Ryan Lowes for 69.

Hughes followed seven runs later, caught by Owen Reed off Paul Reed for 81.

Tom Vickers (46) and Ian Pearson (19) took the home side on and they finished on 269-5 off 47 overs.

Greenside were never really in the game when they took to the crease. Apart from an excellent 81 from Paul Reed, they were all out for 165.

Jhy Berry was the pick of the bowlers as he finished with 6-34. Hughes 3-12 and Ben Oliver 1-28 were the other wicket takers.

On Saturday the two sides come face to face at Weavers Way, with both looking to keep the pressure on the leaders.
