AS the Jam Jar Army hits the quarter mark, the backing of a local supermarket will help to boost the total further.
Our campaign to raise £10,000 for the Playhouse’ Youth Theatre has now reached £2,675.35 and the money is sure to keep rolling in with a jar now sitting on every checkout in Sainsbury’s in Alnwick.
This follows a fund-raising bag pack in the store which raised £1,280.
Their PR ambassador Michael Pearson said: “The Jam Jar Army is such a worthy cause and is very similar to our Charity of the Year campaign.
“We backed it last time for HospiceCare North Northumberland and the jam jar idea was rolled out in three other stores where they did their own versions of the Jam Jar Army.
“Being an ex-member of the Playhouse Youth Theatre it is something close to my heart and great to see already being a success in the store.”
And the Jam Jar Army has also been backed by rock ‘n’ roll revivalists Showaddywaddy following their appearance at the Playhouse on Saturday night.
Anyone with a novel idea for raising funds for the Army should get in touch with Ben O’Connell on 01665 602234 or email@example.com
Full jars can be dropped off at the Alnwick Playhouse, the Northumberland Gazette office in Bondgate Without or the Lions bookshop in Bondgate Within, Alnwick.
