Three Harriers tackle '˜the most scenic trail marathon in Britain'

On Sunday three Alnwick Harriers tackled the very tough Lakeland Trails Marathon at Coniston, named by Runners World Magazine as '˜the most scenic trail marathon in Britain.'

Given the very warm weather this was a tough race for the trio of Shelley Coates, Maureen Bartrum and Dave Bartrum.

However, of 228 runners Dave and Maureen finished in a very good 79th and 80th in 5.47.03 and 5.47.06. Shelley finished 90th in 5.50.46.

In the Half Marathon Challenge Ron McCormack finished this toughie in 355th place in 2.57.05.

On Saturday there were some very good performances by Harriers at the Druridge Bay Parkrun, including the usual PBs and age category wins!

First Harrier to finish in a course best was Shaun Land in 19.47 to take third place. He was followed home in 12th by Mark Douglas.

Mark was having his first run in club colours for some time due to injury and was rightly satisfied with his effort.

Slightly further back Ian McAllister ran a PB, whilst David Hindmarsh was taking part in his 50th parkrun!

For the ladies Zoe Robson was first Harrier to finish in 37th overall. Her time of 23.34 was a course PB, enabling her to finish one place ahead of the female 45 category winner Jackie Prouse.

Sue Bolam was first in the female 50 age group and Pam Wheldon was the winner in the 60 category!

Results: 3-Shaun Land 19.47 (65.21%); 12-Mark Douglas 20.34 (63.78%); 29-Graham Skirrow 22.39 (66.74%); 37-Zoe Robson 23.34; 38-Jackie Prouse 23.36; 39-David Hindmarsh 23.41; 48-Ian McAllister 25.19 (53.92%); 65-Paul Dellbridge 26.40 (55.75%); 74-Sue Bolam 27.04 (63.49%); 108-Pam Wheldon 29.29; 125-Ed Wheldon 30.57; 140-Jayne McKenna 31.57; 154-Stuart Bruce 33.51.

In other parkruns that morning Paul Robinson was in action at Whitley Bay, Mary Plumley at the Forest of Dean, Kirsty Steed at Durham and Gay and Richard Eastoe at Inverness, where Gay won the female 60 category.

Results:

Whitley Bay: 75-Paul Robinson 24.02.

Forest of Dean: 64-Mary Plumley 28.15.

Durham: 321-Kirsty Steed 40.03.

Inverness: 117-Gay Eastoe 27.26; 118-Richard Eastoe 27.27.
