Three casualties in four-vehicle crash on A1 in Northumberland

Emergency services are dealing with a four-car crash which has closed the A1 north of Alnwick today.

Police were called to the collision at Brownieside at 10.47am.

The crash involved an HGV and three other vehicles on the A1 single carriageway northbound, just north of the junction for Wandylaw Newham.

The road was blocked in both directions and there were local diversions in place.

Three casualties were taken to Cramlington Emergency Care Hospital.

UPDATE: The A1 was reopened by 1pm and the injuries to the casualties were not thought to be serious.
