Thousands of thanks from SHAK

Sainsbury's in Alnwick has raised £11,576.53 for SHAK, as part of its Local Charity of the Year scheme.

The charity, a previous beneficiary of the Gazette’s Jam Jar Army, is dedicated to giving sanctuary to abused, mistreated and neglected dogs.

It was chosen by the store’s customers and colleagues last June and has received support for the past year.

Activities have included bag packs and awareness days. Store manager Peter Conwell said: “We’ve had an excellent year supporting SHAK, our customers and colleagues have got involved with a number of fund-raising activities. We’d like to thank everyone at SHAK for making it such a brilliant partnership.”

Joan Austin, head fund-raiser at SHAK, said: “We’d like to thank the customers and colleagues at Sainsbury’s in Alnwick for their support over the past year. It has made such a difference to SHAK and we’re extremely grateful for the donations and awareness we’ve been able to raise.”
