Thousands of thanks as runners raise funds

HospiceCare North Northumberland, The Stephen Carey Fund, Amble RNLI’s Shannon Lifeboat Appeal and The Grafters Club each received a donation of £1,900.

The money was raised at this year’s Druridge Bay 10k in May, which was celebrating its 10th anniversary and saw 500 people take part.

Since starting in 2007, the run – which attracts competitors of all abilities, with some in fancy-dress – has helped bring in more than £111,000 for 11 selected local good causes.

It was a fitting way for Stan Hurst to step down as chairman, having helped to organise the event since its inception.

Stan said: “This year saw our 10th anniversary of the Druridge Bay 10k and we are extremely proud as a volunteer committee to have raised so much for the selected local charities over the years.

“This year’s race raised £7,800 for four charities and event was tremendously well supported with 500 runners taking part. The Druridge Bay 10k is part of the annual sporting calendar and one that people return to each year.

“I would personally like to thank all the runners who have taken part, my fellow committee members, sponsors and all the volunteers who make it the success it is.”

Next year’s race will take place on Sunday, May 28, and will support HospiceCare North Northumberland.
