This included four grants of more than £1,000 – to Alnwick and District Playhouse Trust, Bailiffgate Museum, HospiceCare North Northumberland and Alnwick Citizens Advice Bureau.

Mayor Bill Grisdale said: “I feel it’s really important that as a council we support our local organisations. They do an invaluable job for the town both in supporting local people and also promoting the town to a wider audience, which is always a good thing.”

The council received 20 applications for grants, including five new applicants for 2016 – Alnwick Cricket Club, Alnwick Rugby Club, League of Friends of the Alnwick Hospital, Lionhearts Service User Group and Northumberland Credit Union. A grant was also awarded to Gallery Youth Project earlier this year.

It also gives grants to event organisations, including Alnwick in Bloom, Alnwick Spring Show, Alnwick Christmas Lights, Local Living and Alnwick International Music Festival.
