Thieves stole more than £1,200 of items in two separate raids in Northumberland over the Christmas period.

Overnight on December 30, a detached garage in Old Swarland was broken in to and more than £1,050 worth of gardening equipment was stolen. The offenders gained access via an insecure window.

In the second incident, thieves broke into a vacant ground-floor flat in King Street, Alnwick, sometime between Christmas Eve and January 4.

The culprits entered the property via a broken window at the rear of the building and they stole sets of mixer taps worth £150. Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
