THE race is on to find Alnwick’s most talented entertainers in a new competition which will see the winner bag a £1,000 cash prize.

Alnwick’s Got Talent, based on the ITV Britain’s Got Talent show, is looking for entrants who want to show off what they can do.

From singers to magicians, artists to musicians and everything in between the competition is open to everyone.

It is the culmination of an idea by friends Kevin Fletcher, who runs the Alnwick Gate, and Rob Mallaburn.

Kevin said: “We’ve been talking about doing it for ages. We get the odd decent singer now and again coming to the pub and the idea came from that.

“Rob does karaoke and stuff so we thought we would have a bash at it.

“We want to try to run something similar to what they do on the television.

“I think it will be great.”

The competition will start with a heat on July 30 at the pub, with a panel of three judges watching the acts take to the stage.

There will then be more heats before a final and semi-final to find Alnwick’s best talent running over four weeks.

And audiences can come along to see what the entertainers of Alnwick have to offer with a small admission charge on the door.

The winner will receive £1,000 while a runner-up will also net £500.

Applications for the competition are now open and can be picked up from the pub.

A page for the event has also been set up on social networking website Facebook to keep applicants and those interested in the competition up-to-date.
