Teenager suffers life-threatening injuries in crash as 18-year-old driver arrested

Northumbria Police received a report that a silver Nissan Pixo had collided with a tree at the Moorhouse Crossroads near the village of Edlingham at around 8.30pm on Monday, October 26

The 18-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old female passenger were taken to hospital by the emergency services.

The 17-year-old’s injuries are described as life-threatening and she remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The 18-year-old driver was treated for a shoulder injury, but has since been released from hospital.

He was then arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remains in police custody at this time.

Inspector Lynne Mckevitt, of the force’s Motor Patrols Departmen, said on Tuesday, October 27: “This is a very serious collision and a teenage girl continues to fight for her life in hospital.

“As you can imagine, this is a distressing time for her family and we are carrying out inquiries so we can find out exactly what has happened.

“Those inquiries are at an early stage but the driver of the vehicle has been arrested and will be interviewed about the circumstances of the collision.

“Now we need to speak to anyone who may have see the Nissan Pixo being driven in the area of the B6341, Alnwick to Rothbury road, on Monday evening.”
