Teenager arrested after alleged rape in Northumberland village

Police arrested a 19-year-old man after a teenager reported being raped in a Northumberland village.

The man was held in connection with the alleged attack on the 19-year-old woman in the area of the B1337 in Widdrington on Wednesday night.

He was questioned by detectives before being released on bail.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said “At 11.36pm on Wednesday, November 12, police received a report that a woman aged 19 had been raped in Widdrington. A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

“Police are making inquiries to establish the circumstances and the investigation is in the early stages. Specially trained officers are speaking with the victim and providing her with support.”
