Teenager airlifted to hospital after rugby injury

A teenager was airlifted to hospital after suffering a neck injury while playing rugby in north Northumberland.

The incident happened in Berwick yesterday afternoon. The Great North Air Ambulance was called to assist crew from the North East Ambulance Service. The casualty, from Jedburgh, was assessed and treated by the doctor-led team before being transported to the Borders General Hospital, on the outskirts of Melrose, Scotland. The flight took 18 minutes.

The casualty was in a stable condition when he arrived at hospital and his injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
