The Stephen Carey Fund Golf Day, the second in successive years, was held at Alnwick Castle Golf Club recently.

An impressive turnout of more than 60 participants matched the equally impressive weather to ensure the event was hailed a massive success.

The organisers arranged the first event in 2013 to raise money for the Fund, raising more than £1,000 in the process, later asking for help to provide a defibrillator for the clubhouse.

Given the location and layout of the course at Alnwick and the number of people regularly participating at the club, the committee of The Stephen Carey Fund were only too happy to get involved.

Prior to tee-off at this year’s event, Scott McEwan, the Fund’s chairman, presented club representatives with their very own defibrillator and Dougie McEwan provided a brief demonstration on the first tee as to how to use the device.

Four hours later, an initial fund-raising total of approximately £2,500 was announced to rapturous applause, meaning the club has now raised in excess of £3,500 in less than 12 months for the cause.
