People from all over the county attended a broadband summit in Rothbury last Friday to share views and issues related to the roll-out of the technology.
Organised by Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Berwick MP said that the event, which was attended by Wendy Farmer, from BDUK, and Simon Roberson, from BT, was really useful.
Ms Farmer said she would take away feedback in terms of the roll-out of superfast broadband to the most difficult-to-reach areas in the county not being a value-for-money issue, but a qualitative one.
Mrs Trevelyan said she was encouraged that Ms Farmer said she would speak to colleagues dealing with other large, rural counties.
Another issue raised was that there is an assumption that the commercial roll-out by BT has been completed, which isn’t the case, for example, in parts of Alnwick.
Mrs Trevelyan wants to gain a detailed picture of what’s actually happening in Northumberland so that she and the other MPs in the rural broadband group can approach the Department for Culture, Media and Sport when Parliament reconvenes.
