Talented amateur athlete tells story of incredible life

Fast forward to the spring of 2016, and at the age of 64, the Widdrington athlete had another race – and came first.

But by this time, races and victories were all par for the course for this talented, dedicated and experienced competitor.

Over the course of six decades, he has won countless and varying sporting competitions, while always remaining a working amateur.

Winning British triathlon championships, becoming a former British Ironman record holder and claiming European Championship medals are among his many achievements.

And now, he has published the book – Sixty Years An Athlete – to tell his incredible and inspiring story.

He said: “One of the reasons for writing this book now is that I believe I’ve had a life so very different from anybody else I know or anybody else I have read about. No one, as far as I am aware, has had a life so varied in the general sense, while so athletically intense in the sporting sense.

“If I don’t write my story now, while I am able, it’ll disappear, which would be a pity, because there’s much to tell.”
