Northumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner will take centre stage today at a domestic abuse conference.
Tackling the issue is a priority for Vera Baird in her police and crime plan, and she will deliver the keynote speech at the Enough conference in Ashington.
She said: “I care passionately about tackling domestic abuse and I’m taking an active personal lead in my role as Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria. Because domestic abuse happens mostly behind closed doors, it is something of a hidden crime. Therefore I’m committed to raising awareness of what domestic abuse is, what help and support is available for those suffering from it and making it easier for victims to contact someone to get help.”
Up to 150 delegates from a number of agencies are expected to attend.
