Supporting mental health

Community health staff are out and about across Northumberland in support of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services in the community in Northumberland to promote mental health and wellbeing.

Community services are provided by community nurses, social workers and other professionals including the specialist health improvement service.

In support of Mental Health Awareness Week, the specialist health improvement service in Northumberland will be encouraging community organisations to raise awareness and actively promote the importance of good emotional health.

To increase basic knowledge on mental health, the health improvement service will also be holding a Youth Mental Health First Aid course in Blyth, which will be followed later in the summer months by an adult Mental Health First Aid Course.

Coun Scott Dickinson, chairman of the Health and Wellbeing Board, said: “Mental health covers a broad range of conditions and we are all susceptible to experiencing a mental health issue at some point in our lives.”
