Support county's attractions in BBC Countryfile awards

Two Northumberland sites are in the running for prestigious national awards and need your vote to help them win.

Northumberland National Park is in the running for the National Park of the Year prize, while Bamburgh Castle is shortlisted for Landmark of the Year in the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2015/16.

The National Parks were nominated by BBC Countryfile presenter Ellie Harrison.

She wrote: ‘Forget crowds, technical clothing stores and parking charges, Northumberland National Park will make you wonder, ‘where is everybody?’ It’s made up of meadows, moorland, peat bogs, ancient woodlands and still-wild coastline. In border-country, it has vivid history, solitude, dark skies and superb wildlife such as stoats, black grouse and red squirrels’.

The citation for Bamburgh Castle reads: ‘As one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK, Bamburgh is a true landmark that can been seen from a long stretch of the Northumberland coast. Situated alongside a beautiful sandy beach among the dunes of this windswept coastline, the castle is a real icon of the English landscape’.

The shortlist was drawn up by landscape photographer Guy Edwards.
